The human race has never before been in the precarious position where we are right now. We're at the edge of a global catastrophe unless we make dramatic changes to how we live.
We are faced with two options - one involves making disruptive changes to how we live, towards a lifestyle creating real harmony with the environment around us. The other involves doing nothing and watching disruptive environmental change around us. Either way it's inevitable that massive change is about to take place. Our choice is global and every action is important.
The building industry accounts for more than a quarter of global greenhouse gas emissions. We offer education through dome building on how to significantly reduce our carbon footprint by changing our methods of building right down to the supply chain.
At Geodomes, New Zealand we are coming up with radical new building systems to create Carbon Zero (mostly compostable) structures. Our aim is to source renewable carbon sequesting building supplies as local as possible to make our products. We have a plan for an international distribution network that relies on our customers around the world receiving their products directly from local companies in their area who are producing parts to our specifications. This significantly reduces the carbon footprint for distribution. This is only the first step.
We offer a few different products:
A set of metal brackets or connectors which you can use to make your own geodesic frame out of timber you may have lying around or source from a local timber yard.
A Geodesic Dome frame kit which comes with everything you need to construct a wooden dome frame (the covering is left to you).
A Habitat Dome Kit which comes with a canvas interior wall covered in 100 millimetres of wool blend insulation and a heavy duty weatherproof canvas shell and PVC windows. We offer an installation service throughout New Zealand too.
We also offer an 18sqm Geodesic Greenhouse Dome kit. This is made with strong laminated timber struts from New Zealand pine, galvanised NZ made fasteners and high quality ‘Duratough’ greenhouse plastic (the greenhouse plastic is the only part not made here in New Zealand.)
But what if you want to build your own dome from scratch? Building your own geodesic dome from scratch usually seems like a daunting task given the lack of ‘right’ angles involved. Once you realise the angles and accuracy required you likely give up, but Don't! Let’s say you want to build a geodesic dome out of some wood you have had lying around for ages and not spend too much money. We have the perfect solution for you - A customised interactive instruction manual.
This e-book is like no other - it’s a unique interactive instruction manual which guides you step by step to build a geodesic dome with a range of different options. However what sets this apart from almost any other instruction manual is the malleability of the information it gives you. At the beginning of the book you are quizzed with building options you’re looking for, the type of materials you want to use and the dimensions of your dome. Once this information is entered the entire book gets re-written to your specifications. When the step by step instructions come up, they will have your dimensions, cut lengths and the correct angles required to construct your dome. Remove the confusion and headaches normally expected when trying to build a dome by yourself with our interactive e-book! This is designed to be printed as a hard copy for your building site.
