This Arduino will get you going with the basics of micro controllers. Highly recommened for anyone who is interested in getting into "Practical Electronics", ie making stuff around the home. These are great for kids to learn about computer programming and electronics.
There is enough information online to sink a battleship if you don't know what to do with it.
You'll need a 6-9 volt power supply of some sort to run this without a computer USB port, 12 Volts is not really recommended.
